WOMAN'S SKELETON IS FOUND.

Some Old Residents Say She Was
Killed by Indians in 1874.

The skeleton of a woman was unearthed yesterday by excavators on West Thirty-second street between Wyoming and Genesee streets. Old residents say that it is the body of a woman who died there about thirty-five years ago.

A man and his wife were traveling overland in a covered wagon and the wife died. Her husband buried the body there. Others say that they were attacked by a band of Indians who were camped just over the state line and that the woman was killed while the husband escaped in the darkness and returned the next day to find everything gone but her body. After burying her he left on foot and was never heard of afterward.

When taken from the ground most of the bones were intact, but crumbled shortly after striking the air. A few long hairs were found. Hinges and other fastenings showed that she was buried in a coffin.
